Meet the Weaving Women's Voices Team

Maricel “Eizel” Hilario-Patiño

Project Officer

Maricel “Eizel” Hilario-Patiño (Project Officer) is an anthropologist working mostly on Indigenous Peoples’ concerns, particularly on the issues of massive dispossession, rights to ancestral domains and self-determination, cultural politics of “development”, and biodiversity conservation. As a member of the Transitional Justice League, she helped draft the Transitional Justice Bill for sponsorship in the Senate. She joined the Weaving Team because she believed TJ is the logical framework to address the continuing human rights violations following “development aggression,” massive deforestation and loss of ancestral territories which culminated during Marcos’ Martial Law.

As a researcher, she also initiated the database on the six research sites, Martial Law, and Transitional Justice in the Philippines by gathering related literature online at the height of the pandemic. Eizel was also part of the Curation Team and provided not only administrative support but also anthropological insights for the creation of the WWWWW exhibit. She also created the entangled threadwork of the Kalinga artwork in the WWWWW exhibit remount. As a foodie, she enjoyed planning what and where the Team would eat during their activities.
