Karl Castro

Karl Castro, b. 1986 (Lead Artwork Developer) is an acclaimed book designer for cultural and scholarly volumes, and poster designer for diverse works of Philippine cinema. He helps cultivate conversations and interventions across various creative fields, with a focus on art, design, and cinema. His areas of interest include culture, books, travel, craft, history, and Filipino identity. He has designed, curated, and participated in exhibitions on institutional memory, contemporary issues, and community-based creative work. He creates art in various media, including painting, weaving, and photomedia. He is currently a lecturer at both the Department of Fine Arts and the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, Ateneo de Manila University.


As Lead Artwork Developer he collaborates with the curatorial team and women participants from indigenous and Muslim communities. He helped facilitate the process of ideating and producing the artworks for the project's exhibition. This included identifying appropriate materials and techniques to suit each area's context, finding sensitive and respectful ways to convey the violence the women endured, and doing additional visual research.
